The UK is often seen as a place where the main activities revolve around queuing and drinking tea. It is in fact a fantastic location to try your hand at a number of activities that would leave even the most intrepid adventurer clambering for breath.
The stunning British countryside is host to some incredible outdoor activities that can be undertaking whilst taking in the scenery, and with a rich engineering heritage the UK is at the forefront of some of the most exciting and pioneering extreme sports in the world. So, if you are looking for something different to do in the UK, or an adrenaline junkie looking for some high-speed entertainment, read on for a few ideas.
Zorbing
One of the best activities on offer in the British countryside comes in the form of zorbing. If you haven’t heard of this before – and we don’t blame you – the idea is that you get inside a giant inflatable ball and hurtle down a hill through the beautiful countryside. Despite the sound of it, this is completely safe and a perfect activity if you’re a thrill seeker looking for something a little bit different. It’s certainly a unique way to see the countryside.
Track Days
If you’re a keen driver, you can always take your car for a spin on a racetrack. Track days are held on all the major race circuits in the country, such as Goodwood and Silverstone. Be warned that many people go once and get bitten by the bug, so you might want to consider getting a road car converted into a track car at a specialist garage. Track days take place all the time, and allow you to drive as fast as you like and race your friends to the finish line.
Sport Car Experiences
If you are not too keen on taking one of your own cars out on the track, a number of experience companies now offer the chance to drive some of your dream cars around a race circuit. Whether you like Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s or Aston Martin’s you are able to test drive a range of supercars, with an experienced racing driver alongside you in the passenger seat. For some this is the only way to experience the sheer ferocity of these super-quick cars, especially as they can cost upwards of 150,000 to buy. This is a must for petrolheads that need that extra bit of speed.
Water Sports
With just under 20,000 miles of coastline in the UK, there are lots of opportunities to try your hand at a variety of extreme water sports. For example, jet-skiing and water-skiing are on offer on most beaches up and down the country and Cornwall is famous for its excellent surfing conditions. Don your wetsuit and get your goggles in position and show off your skills on the waves. Alternatively, you can train for your PADI diving certificate so you can explore what lies beneath the British shores.
Air Sports
Since many parts of the UK are hilly, there are numerous opportunities to try out airborne activities such as paragliding or hang-gliding. There are also numerous air bases where you can learn to fly planes. If you enjoy exploring the sky, you could try Making a spitfire ride.
If you need a bit more adrenaline, there is even the chance to be a true daredevil and attempt abseiling, bungee jumping or skydiving in many unique locations all over stunning parts of rural England. The most daring adventurers will be rewarded with amazing views and the satisfaction that they’ve conquered yet another challenge.
There are many more adventures to be had throughout the British Isles that take advantage of both nature and man-made machines. Whatever your thrill is, somewhere in the UK you will be able to get your kick – be it through speed, heights or plain excitement. The UK countryside is there to amaze and excite and every year there are new challenges and activities being dreamt up to challenge even the most die-hard adrenaline junkies.
