The Parents Guide To Buying Your Son His First Car

We all want the best for our kids, and so making sure they pass their driving test at 17 and get the ideal car to start them on their journey is vitally important. You obviously don’t want to choose anything too fast, as that would be an accident waiting to happen. But at the same time, you don’t want to buy them anything too old or boring, as they simply won’t enjoy taking it out for a ride. With this in mind, today I’m going to talk you through a number of different considerations you should make when looking at different models. Hopefully, the information will make it a little easier to know if you’re thinking of the right cars.

Some people think it’s best to spend as little as possible due to the fact that many new drivers have small accidents or bumps during their first few months on the road. While this is rather sensible, regardless of which model you choose, knocking a few dents out from time to time isn’t going to break the bank. So, you shouldn’t let this be the basis of your decision making. Instead, take a quick read through some of the tips I’ve listed below…

Think About Insurance Costs

No matter what cars you’re researching, it’s vital you take the time to get insurance quotes before spending your cash. This is because you could end up buying a car worth £2,000, only to discover it will cost your son £3,000 to keep it insured for the year. Obviously, this just doesn’t make good financial sense, and so you need to be very careful. Luckily, there are so many comparison sites around these days that performing this job shouldn’t take any more than a day.

Think About Attractiveness

Your son will want a car that will impress his friends (and any ladies he might pass by), and so you should definitely bear this in mind when selecting the perfect model. Perhaps you like the look of the new Vauxhall Astra? Or maybe you want him to have something a little more sporty like the Mazda MX-5? Either way, there’s lots of information online that could help you to make the right decision. You can even click here for more info on the MX5 if you can’t wait.

Think About Safety

As I mentioned only a moment ago, your son will probably have at least one small bump during his first few months on the road, and this means you need to pay close attention to safety information on any car you acquire. Just make sure it has both driver and passenger airbags, and that there’s no manufacturer warnings relating to common safety issues. Also, whatever you buy, spend time emphasising how important it is to wear a seatbelt at all times. I know he will have been told this before, but young people sometimes think it’s “cool” to drive without one. As adults, we know differently.

And that’s it for now guys. I’m glad you chose to read all the way through this article, as I feel it contained a lot of useful information. Good luck with your search, and I’ll probably see you back here sometime soon.

Stay safe!
