After giving birth, women can sometimes feel a little lost. Don’t get me wrong, being a mother, especially a new mother, is a wonderful experience. However, this doesn’t stop many women from losing a sense of themselves. People wonder if they’re still the same person they once were. If this is ringing true with you, read on to learn how to feel like you again after giving birth:
Take Some Time to Yourself
It’s very important you take some time to yourself. Don’t worry about what other people think – take a few hours a week away from your baby if you feel like you need it. Even if you feel like you don’t need it, it can still be a good time to reflect and remember who you are. Ask your partner, mother, trusted friend to look after your little one while you go shopping or for a pamper at the salon, for example.
Remember You’re Still You
You haven’t changed. Giving birth has not magically transformed you into somebody else. You can still enjoy the things you used to do within reason, you can still laugh at the same things, read the same books – your child will love you for who you are, and you will help to mould their personality. You don’t need to stop dying your hair or going to the gym all because you’re a mom now.
Read Books and Magazines
Self help books and magazines can be a great way to make you feel amazing about yourself. They can also teach us some wonderful life lessons, and be great motivators. Even storybooks can give us a little while to ourselves – almost as if we’ve been taken to another world.
Don’t Let Yourself Go
There’s absolutely no need to let yourself go. If anything, you should try harder to maintain your appearance after giving birth! It’s safe to begin exercising around 8 weeks after giving birth, but double check with your doctor first. You can even exercise during pregnancy to keep up your fitness and health! You should still apply your makeup, do your hair, make sure you smell nice – everything you used to do before you had your baby.
Make Time for Your Partner
It’s important that you and your partner make quality time for each other. Having a baby can put stresses and strains on a relationship, but as long as you make quality time for each other as you hopefully always have done, you’ll be fine.
Many moms choose to spend every last penny they have on their baby, and I’m not saying you shouldn’t at all. Just remember that there’s nothing wrong with treating yourself every now and again! This could be a nice bath product, makeup product, top, or even something from Shinola, like a watch or bag.
See Your Friends
Don’t forget your friends! New moms sometimes lose old friends due to having a baby, and make new friends in other moms. There’s nothing wrong with this, providing you’ve made the effort to see your old friends. If they’d rather not see you anymore because you’ve had a baby, that’s their choice – and more fool them!
Follow these tips and you’ll be back to your old self in no time!
